Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Are tattoos for Christians a sin? What do other Christians think of religious tattoos?
I want to get a bird with a cross on its chest and bloody thorns in its mouth as a tribute to the freedom God has given us and the sacrifice of Jesus. Would this go against God? How do you, as a Christian, feel about religious tattoos and tattoos in general?

Please no rude answers. I don't want a lecture on how my religion is false or anything of the kind. If that is your opinion please keep it to yourself. I respect other people's beliefs so please have the courtesy to respect mine.

    • ANSWER:
My friend, Yes it is a sin God clearly states in it Lev. 19:28.

Lev. 19:28 You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the LORD.

This is both a theological truth (timeless truth in passage) as well as a homiletical truth (timeless truth applied to your specific audience).

  2. QUESTION:
Why do some religious people get tattoos when God says not to in the bible?
For example why would someone who doesn't have respect for God's command not to mark the body, which obviously means they don't believe or have respect in God, get religious tattoos like the cross or Jesus?

    • ANSWER:
The verse you are referring to is found in the Old Testament, there are also many rules to be found there about what clothes you can and cannot wear, meat you can't eat, make-up, earrings, etc.

When Jesus died he did away with the OT Law, he made a new Covenant with us. You will also find that in the Bible. Therefore those things are no longer wrong to do.

  3. QUESTION:
Why do mexican gangsters always have religious tattoos?
I always see these mexican gangsters with religious tattoos until the gospel gangstas come and than they have a gang war.

    • ANSWER:
Government statistics show that christians are vastly over represented in prisons for sexual, violent and fraudulent crime!!

The Catholic church is paying millions in compensation for the sex/pedophile crimes of their priests alone!!

Christians are vastly over represented in the divorce courts!!

Christians invented the concept of sin and then the idea that you could sin, ask forgiveness, get pardoned and start with a clean sheet!!

Mexican christians are no different to all the others.

So no surprise that they are so expert at it is it?!!!

  4. QUESTION:
To the people opposed to tattoos: Are you still opposed to religious tattoos? Why or why not?
I have been in arguments with people over the years about tattoos and many think they are a desecration of the body, but recanted this same idea once religious tattoos came up. I want to know how someone can be against something that may have special meaning to a person UNTIL it becomes a religious symbol.
